Reigning Ghana FA Cup champions, Asante Kotoko, have abrogated their contract with five first-team players after the end of the 2024/25 season's campaign, Kickgh.com can exclusively confirm.
The Porcupine Warriors have officially terminated the contract of the players following their uninspiring performances in the just-concluded season and also gross misconduct.
The club's skipper, Justice Blay, has been offloaded upon the expiration of his contract and disciplinary issues, which resulted in the club's decision not to offer him a contract extension.
Former WAFA midfielder Michael Kyei Dwamena is also leaving the club after his three-year contract expired on June 10.
Nigerian international Fernando Wisdom Bassey, who joined the Kumasi-based outfit on a free transfer in August 2024 after leaving Sporting Lagos, has also been axed for his poor output. Despite having a pre-season with the club, he managed to score a goal in 16 Premier League appearances.
The Asante Kotoko technical team also declared Daniel Adrian Adjetey, Kwasi Asante, Samuel Tenadu, and Sampson Eduku, who arrived at the club during the second round of the season, as surplus to requirements ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Asante Kotoko are currently holding talks with Frederick Asare, Andrews Ntim Manu, and Baba Yahaya over new deals.
Asante Kotoko have already commenced negotiations with several players, such as Hubert Gyau, Zakaria Fuseini, Francis Acquah, and others, for a possible acquisition in the ongoing transfer window.
The two-time CAF Champions League winners are Ghana's sole representative in the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup after defeating second-tier league side Golden Kick SC to clinch the Ghana FA title for the tenth time.
