It’s a two-horse race for glory as standout performers Albert Amoah and Benjamin Asare go head-to-head in the Player and Goalkeeper of the Month race for the NASCO Player of the Month award for May/June in the Ghana Premier League.
The esteemed monthly award, celebrating players for outstanding performances during the review period, also includes Kingsley Braye of Medeama SC and Kelvin Ampoful of Nations FC among the nominees.
Nominated players have lit up the league in recent weeks with stellar individual performances, and now they’re on the brink of being crowned the best in their respective positions.
Albert Amoah, the attacking livewire of Asante Kotoko earned his nomination after a red-hot scoring streak, bagging four goals in five appearances, including a brilliant hat-trick against Medeama in the penultimate fixture of the campaign.
Braye, a key figure in Medeama’s frontline, netted three goals and secured one NASCO Player of the Match award, while Ampoful equaled his goal tally with three in five appearances and stood out further with three NASCO Player of the Match accolades.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has been a brick wall between the sticks, managing three clean sheets across four fixtures, conceded just once, and was instrumental in Hearts of Oak’s unbeaten streak with three wins. His reflexes, leadership, and command of the box have been second to none.
He faces strong competition from Lawrence Osei of Heart of Lions, who registered two clean sheets and allowed two goals in four outings, as well as Rabin Ousmane Sanon of Nations FC.
Sanon, the Burkinabe goalkeeper, who has earned consecutive nominations, also kept two shutouts and played a key role in three victories for his side, despite conceding three goals in four appearances.
In the Coach of the Month category, Hearts of Oak’s Aboubakar Ouattara leads the contenders. The Burkinabe tactician steered the Phobians to four wins and a draw in five matches, with his team netting seven goals and conceding only one during the evaluation period.
Ouattara faces a challenge from Nurudeen Amadu of Karela United, who orchestrated his team’s successful fight against relegation, securing three wins and one loss, while his side scored seven times and conceded twice.
Vision FC coach Nana Kwaku Agyemang also earned a nomination after guiding his squad to three victories and one defeat, with a total of seven goals scored and four conceded across the month.
