Ashanti Gold Sporting Club, a former participant in the Ghana Premier League, has issued an official statement expressing their strong opposition to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) regarding the decision to suspend the club from engaging in any football-related activities.

In a press release issued on Friday, August 18, the club openly contested the GFA's verdict.

According to the club's stance, they assert that the suspension lacks legitimacy, citing that the Ghana FA did not fulfill the necessary quorum during their Congress to warrant the passage of such a resolution.

Despite the absence of the required number of eligible delegates voting in favor of the suspension, the General Secretary of the Association proceeded to validate the club's suspension. This, as Ashanti Gold SC highlighted, goes against the stipulations of Article 17 (2) of the GFA statutes, 2019. The mentioned article mandates that the suspension of a member by the Congress necessitates more than 50 percent of delegates representing the present and eligible members to vote, with three-quarters of the votes supporting the suspension.

“Despite not having the required number of eligible delegates voting in support of the suspension, the General Secretary of the Association went ahead to confirm the suspension of the club, in direct contradiction to Article 17 (2) of the GFA statutes, 2019, as quoted "suspension of a Member by the Congress requires more than 50 percent of the delegates representing the Members present and eligible to vote and three quarters voting for the suspension,” part of the release from Ashgold SC said.

It added, “We, therefore, write to express our disagreement with the suspension as it is in contradiction with the demands of Article 17 (2) of the Ghana Football Association statutes, 2019.”

Ashanti Gold firmly appeals for the GFA to address this error in judgment and reconsider the decision to suspend the club.
