Asante Kotoko have bolstered their defensive ranks with the signing of former Accra Lions centre-back Musah Hamzata on a three-year contract ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The 23-year-old, who earned a reputation as one of the most reliable defenders in the Ghana Premier League during his stint with Accra Lions, was a target for several local clubs including Medeama, Aduana Stars, and Nations FC. However, he opted to join the Porcupine Warriors, sealing what is seen as a significant coup for the Kumasi giants.

Hamzata is admired for his aerial dominance, composure in possession, and ability to marshal the backline—qualities that made him one of the most sought-after young defenders in the domestic league.

With Kotoko looking to reshape their defense under a new technical direction following last season’s inconsistencies, Hamzata is expected to play a key role in solidifying their backline as they chase silverware this season.

The lanky defender has already joined his new teammates at Kotoko’s camp for the GHALCA Top Four tournament, where the Porcupine Warriors have endured a tough start, suffering back-to-back defeats against Bibiani GoldStars and Heart of Lions.
