Elmina Sharks midfielder Jay Asamoah Kola has been handed a one-year suspension by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee following a violent incident during a Division One League match against Swedru All Blacks United FC on February 16, 2025.

Kola was found guilty of physically assaulting the referee after receiving a red card, triggering a heated confrontation that disrupted the match. The referee’s report and video evidence confirmed his actions, leading to a decisive ruling from the disciplinary body.

The GFA Disciplinary Committee emphasized that the suspension serves as a warning to players, reinforcing the need for discipline and ensuring the protection of match officials. The governing body also warned that any further misconduct from Kola could lead to a lifetime ban from Ghanaian football.

Elmina Sharks has been directed to educate their players on maintaining professionalism and respecting referees. The club retains the right to appeal the decision within seven days.

The GFA’s swift action underscores its commitment to eradicating hooliganism and maintaining order in Ghanaian football, sending a strong message that violent behavior will not be tolerated.
