Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has admitted that his side is under extra pressure this season, noting that every opponent is eager to claim a victory over the Porcupine Warriors.

The Reds’ 2-1 loss to Basake Holy Stars in Ampain ended their impressive ten-game unbeaten streak and left Kotoko three points adrift of league leaders Aduana FC, who currently sit on 20 points. The defeat also denied Kotoko a chance to move to the top of the Ghana Premier League standings.

Reflecting on the result, Zito stressed that it does not reflect his team’s usual form. “The way for every club, we all want to win the league. It's not only Kotoko. Even the way you play here, if that’s how you play every club, then you wouldn't be last,” he said.

He added: “Everybody wants to beat Kotoko. That is the nature of the issue. But we didn't play badly. We played good football and created chances. Putting the ball into the net was, once again, the problem. But so far, so good. We are playing the league.”

Kotoko will next host Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday in a crucial clash for league positioning. Medeama currently sit third with 22 points, while Basake Holy Stars remain 17th in the relegation zone with nine points, underscoring the challenge that lies ahead for Zito’s side.
