Asante Kotoko SC has appointed Hamza Obeng Mohammed as the club’s new second assistant coach and head coach of the youth team, the Young Porcupines, pending an official announcement.
The 31-year-old tactician has emerged as the leading candidate for the role due to his growing reputation and impressive coaching track record in Ghanaian football.
Obeng is best known for his role as deputy coach to Samuel Boadu at Medeama SC between 2017 and 2021, where he helped build a competitive squad. He later reunited with Boadu at Hearts of Oak, serving as assistant coach during one of the club’s most successful periods in recent history.
During their tenure at Hearts, the duo guided the Phobians to a Ghana Premier League title in the 2020/21 season, ending a ten-year title drought. They also won back-to-back MTN FA Cups, underlining Obeng’s value as a dependable tactical mind on the bench.
Most recently, Obeng worked with Vision FC, where he played a significant role as assistant coach in helping the club secure promotion to the Ghana Premier League for the first time in their history. He holds a CAF License B coaching certificate.
His appointment signals Kotoko’s intent to bolster both their technical team and youth development structure as they prepare for the upcoming season.
