The Porcupine Warriors have reached the round of 16 of the 2024 FA Cup after securing a hard-fought win over Acceler8z FC on Sunday afternoon.

Asante Kotoko advanced to the next round of the FA Cup competition following a 2-0 victory over the third-tier club in the round of 32 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum made several changes in his team as young goalkeeper Fatao Seidu was handed a starting berth for the first time with Vitus Avoka, who also made his maiden debut for the club.

Asante Kotoko exercised their attacking muscles in the early minutes with Saaka Dauda and Kwame Opoku coming close to opening the scoring for the home side, but their efforts went wide.

The breakthrough came on the stroke of halftime when Saaka Dauda was fouled by Acceler8z FC shot-stopper, resulting in a penalty that was brilliantly converted by Opoku to hand Asante Kotoko a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Asante Kotoko dominated the majority of the possession with the hopes of registering more goals, but they were wasteful upfront.

Defender Henry Ansu hit the final nail into the coffin on the 90+7 minute to end the fixture in a 2-0 win for Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Following the victory, Asante Kotoko has progressed to the last 16 of the 2024 FA Cup competition.
