Aduana FC chief executive Collins Atta Poku has sparked debate by disputing Kumasi’s favourite storyline, insisting that Alex Boakye, rather than Asante Kotoko star Samba O’Niel, is the Ghana Premier League’s top centre-back.

Speaking on Wontumi TV, Atta Poku said he was well aware of the noise surrounding O’Niel’s performances but was unmoved by the hype.

“I hear people in Kumasi say Kotoko centre-back Samba O’Niel is the best in the league, but we disagree,” he said. “For us, the best centre-back is Alex Boakye of Aduana FC.”

Atta Poku’s comments are likely to stir conversation across the league, with both players enjoying strong starts to the season. But the Ogya CEO was clear that, in his view, Boakye’s consistency and influence put him ahead of the pack and he was happy to say so publicly.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko extended their unbeaten run in the Ghana Premier League, coming from behind to claim a 1–1 stalemate against Aduana FC in a match-week 10 clash at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
