Communications Director of Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo says the decision on when goalkeeper Benjamin Asare returns to the starting lineup will be made solely by the club’s goalkeeping coach, Najahu Issah.

Asare lost his first-choice spot to Solomon Agbasi after sustaining an injury during the Black Stars international friendly against South Korea in November. Agbasi who made his debut against Swedru All Blacks that same month has since established himself as the club’s No.1.

Although Asare has now recovered, he is yet to feature since his return. Speaking to Asempa FM, Opare Addo stressed that his gradual reintegration will be carefully managed.

“For now, Benjamin Asare will be given a few minutes of play until he fully recovers from his injury. The decision for him to take the starting position in goal, replacing Agbasi, will be made by the goalkeeper’s trainer,” he explained.

Opare Addo also clarified Asare’s absence from Hearts’ recent game against Medeama, revealing it was due to illness.

“Benjamin Asare made the team sheet but missed the Medeama clash because of a stomach upset,” he added.

Asare will now look to work his way back into contention when Hearts of Oak face Hohoe United in their Matchday 18 encounter at the Hohoe Sports Stadium on Saturday, January 10.
