The Ghana government has confirmed its financial support for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League, with each of the 18 clubs set to receive GH¢1 million.

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Iddie Adams said the funding is part of efforts to strengthen domestic football and improve the financial position of clubs.

The government hopes the support will help clubs become more stable and eventually manage their finances without depending on state funding.

Speaking to Max TV, Adams said the government would continue supporting the league until clubs are able to stand on their own.

“Government is sponsoring it (GPL) and intends to continue to sponsor up to a point that the clubs can be on their feet,” Adams said.

The Buem MP said the government's plans go beyond providing financial assistance for the current league season.

“Government is interested in building our domestic clubs and leagues,” he added.

The financial support for the Ghana Premier League was first announced during the launch of the broadcast partner for the 2025/26 season.

GFA president Kurt Okraku revealed at the time that the government had committed funds to support the competition.

The money is expected to provide further financial relief for the 18 clubs as they compete in the 2026/27 season.
