Football is a team game. Every player wants to get their hands on a league title or a trophy. The betPawa Premier League title isn’t the only one that must be decided when the season ends.
There are some individual awards up for grabs, and one of the most coveted individual prizes in Ghana’s topflight league is the Goal King award - a trophy presented to the league's master marksman who ends the season as the leading goal scorer.
There's a plethora of incredible forwards scattered throughout the 18 teams in the Ghanaian top flight, with a key talisman pivotal to every team's fortune, be that searching for silverware or fighting for survival.
With that in mind, we take a look at three players who could end this season as the league’s top scorer.
Abednego Tetteh (Bibiani Goldstars)
Abednego Tetteh has been in blistering goalscoring form ever since trading King Faisal FC for Bibiani Goldstars, netting 18 Premier League goals with 2 during his days at King Faisal FC in 28 appearances. The Miners are playing a great brand of attacking football (as evidenced by their recent outings) under Michael Osei, and that should provide the 32-year-old with plenty of chances. Importantly, too, he's a guaranteed starter every week.
There's every chance he can keep firing at the current rate given everything's looking so rosy at the moment.
Hafiz Konkoni (Bechem United)
The Bechem United hitman is ending the season like a house on fire, and is one of the favourites to go on and pick up the Goal King award. His physique and technique have combined to make him one of the most feared strikers in the league at this moment in time. He looks refreshed thanks to recovery from injury that stunted his form in the early days of the season. He is second on the list with 15 goals and has shown no signs of taking his foot off the metaphorical pedal.
Sampson Eduku (Tamale City)
Sampson Eduku has developed into a key cog in the Citizens' attack since his arrival, stepping up his efforts and becoming a more regular contributor in front of goal. With 14 goals to his name, Eduku possesses frightening pace, lethal shooting range and the vision to see a key pass, he has all the key traits needed to push a Tamale City’s survival charge.
He's more than just a number nine, though, and selflessness might cost him the chance of finishing as the division's top scorer.
