Kwame Opoku returns to training.

Asante Kotoko assistant coach Prince Yaw Owusu has revealed that in-form striker Kwame Opoku is unlikely to feature in their upcoming Ghana Premier League showdown with bitter rivals Hearts of Oak.

The highly anticipated Super Clash is scheduled for Sunday, 9 November, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kick-off at 15:00 GMT.

Opoku, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury since the opening-day fixture against Berekum Chelsea, only recently returned to light training. However, Yaw Owusu insists the forward will not be rushed back into action.

“To be honest with you, Sunday is too early for him — Kwame Opoku,” Yaw Owusu said after Kotoko’s 4-2 victory over Karela United in Matchweek 8. “We just have to prepare and prepare him well so that when he comes back, he comes to stay.”

With Opoku still recovering, Kotoko’s attacking options remain limited following the sale of Albert Amoah to Libyan club Al Ahly Benghazi, leaving Morifin Donzo as their main striker.

Both Kotoko and Hearts head into the weekend unbeaten in the Ghana Premier League. Hearts stunned Basake Holy Stars 2-1 in their match week 8 encounter over the weekend, taking their record to four wins and four draws, while Kotoko have three wins and two draws from their opening fixtures.
