Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Ogum has stood by goalkeeper Frederick Asare amid criticism following a long-range goal conceded during Kotoko’s recent 2-1 loss to Legon Cities.
Asare, who is a regular call-up for the Black Stars, faced scrutiny after a powerful strike from Albert Yeboah caught him off guard, resulting in a late reaction to the shot that secured Legon Cities’ first win of the season.
Despite the backlash, Ogum defended Asare’s skill and dismissed the criticism. "I think he is a competent goalkeeper. It's just that we lost, but to us, he is a good goalkeeper,” Ogum asserted. “We have strong goalkeepers, and it’s just unfortunate that this happened."
The defeat, Kotoko’s first of the season, has pushed the club to regroup and address areas for improvement as they aim to maintain their position near the top of the league. Currently in second place, Kotoko will host Heart of Lions on Sunday, eager to return to winning form.
