Basake Holy Stars head coach Abdulai Gazale has expressed his frustration over the officiating of referee Rustum Gameli Senorgbe following his side’s narrow defeat to Asante Kotoko on matchday 25 of the Ghana Premier League.

The league debutants suffered a 1-0 loss at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with Samuel Tenedu’s deflected strike in the 14th minute proving to be the decisive goal. The result marked Kotoko’s third consecutive win and extended their unbeaten run to four matches.

Speaking after the game, Gazale, a former assistant coach at Kotoko, voiced his displeasure over the referee’s decisions, suggesting they influenced the outcome of the match.

“Sometimes, when you’re playing in the second round of the league, you see a lot of things happening. I don’t usually talk about referees, but this time, I have to because I know what went into this match,” Gazale said.

“We know what Kotoko did in the first leg, but they did not succeed. Here, they have succeeded. Just look at the free-kicks awarded against us—it’s unfortunate.”

Basake Holy Stars will now have to regroup quickly as they continue their battle to avoid relegation. They currently sit 14th on the league table with 24 points.
