Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has openly admitted his desire to reinforce his squad with a defensive midfielder as the mid-season transfer window for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League approaches its closing stages.

Zito’s comments came after the Porcupine Warriors secured a 2-0 victory over bottom-placed Eleven Wonders on Wednesday at the University of Ghana Stadium. While the result strengthened Kotoko’s campaign, the overall performance — particularly in midfield — drew criticism from sections of the club’s supporters.

Addressing those concerns in his post-match remarks, the Kotoko trainer acknowledged the need for more balance and protection in the middle of the park.

“For the DM position, I still need someone. I still need a defensive midfielder, and Hubert Gyau didn’t get his day, which also affected the midfield,” Zito said.

He further explained that injuries had disrupted his options, limiting the team’s cohesion in that area of the pitch.

“Some of the midfielders are just coming back from injury, so I didn’t expect them to play their normal game the way they would. In the end, since we were able to win, I’m okay with that, but it shall be well,” he added.

The midseason transfer window in the Ghana Premier League is scheduled to close on January 15, 2026, leaving Kotoko with limited time to address the coach’s concerns.

Up next, the Kumasi-based giants will return to action on Sunday, December 28, when they host Bechem United at the Baba Yara Stadium in their Matchday 16 fixture.
