Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has expressed delight for Johnson Oppong following the Ghana Premier League side’s 2-0 victory over Eleven Wonders at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Peter Amidu Acquah opened the scoring in the 16th minute, while Oppong came off the bench to net the decisive goal in the 89th minute, securing all three points for the Porcupine Warriors after a testing encounter where Eleven Wonders had moments of dominance.
Speaking after the match, Zito highlighted the significance of Oppong’s goal for the 27-year-old former Dreams FC forward.
“I am happy for him because he struggled [to make it to the first team],” Zito said.
“If in his first game of the season he has been able to score a goal, I wish every game he would have the opportunity to play. He would increase the tally, and the self-confidence will come back to him.”
The win lifts Kotoko into third place in the Ghana Premier League standings. The Kumasi giants are next in action on Sunday, December 28, when they host Bechem United at the Baba Yara Stadium in a Matchday 16 clash.
