Asante Kotoko left-back Patrick Asiedu has issued an apology to his teammates and supporters after his late penalty concession led to a 1-0 defeat against Swedru All Blacks in the Ghana Premier League match-week 6 last Saturday.

The game appeared to be heading towards a different outcome until Asiedu fouled Baah Junior in the box, allowing Eric Darkwa Wiafe to convert from the spot late and hand the homesters the victory.

Taking responsibility for the incident, the defender took to social media to express regret over his mistake and the impact it had on the team.

“I want to sincerely apologise to my teammates and our fans for my mistake in yesterday’s game that resulted in a penalty. I take full responsibility, and I know how disappointing that moment was for everyone.

“I feel terrible about what happened, and I’m truly sorry. It was never my intention to let the team or our supporters down. I will learn from this mistake, work harder, and do everything I can to improve.

“To my teammates and our fans, please accept my sincere apology. Thank you for standing by me even in difficult moments. I promise to keep giving my best for this team and this badge,” he added.

Asiedu admitted that the incident had left him disappointed but promised to learn from it and work harder to improve his performances.

Asante Kotoko will now turn their attention to their next league fixture against Young Apostles, where Asiedu and his teammates will aim to respond to the defeat and return to winning ways.
