Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah has surged into contention for the Ghana Premier League Golden Boot after netting a sensational hat-trick in his side’s 3-1 triumph over Medeama SC on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The 21-year-old forward delivered a commanding display, scoring all three goals for Kotoko to overturn Medeama’s early advantage and secure a vital home win in their penultimate game of the season.

Amoah equalised from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute after Medeama had taken the lead, then doubled his tally with a sharp near-post header in the 40th minute to give Kotoko a 2-1 lead before the break. He completed his hat-trick in the 79th minute with another powerful header, taking his season total to 12 goals — just three behind league top scorer Stephen Amankona of Berekum Chelsea, who sits on 15.

Speaking after the match, Amoah expressed confidence about his chances in the top scorer race.

“It’s not too late — everything is possible,” he said. “I scored a hat-trick against Accra Great Olympics, and now today too. So now, I have two hat-trick balls at home.”

Kotoko will finish their season away to Vision FC, and all eyes will be on Amoah to see if he can add to his tally and potentially snatch the Golden Boot in the final round.
