Basake Holy Stars are demanding to be awarded all three points after their Ghana Premier League clash with Nations FC was abandoned under controversial circumstances over the weekend.

The fixture, which was expected to be a fiercely contested affair with high stakes, came to an abrupt halt in the second half after Nations FC players walked off the pitch in protest of a second penalty awarded to the home team, Basake Holy Stars.

According to eyewitness accounts and local match officials, the penalty decision sparked heated protests from the Nations FC technical bench and players, leading to a lengthy delay and eventual abandonment when the away side refused to resume play with Holy Stars leading by a lone goal, scored from a penalty spot in the 32nd minute.

In a formal petition submitted to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Basake Holy Stars argue that Nations FC’s refusal to continue the match constitutes forfeiture, and as such, they should be awarded the full three points in accordance with the competition’s regulations.

“We believe we were in full control of the game, and the laws are clear on abandonment caused by one team’s refusal to continue. The rules must be applied without bias,” a Holy Stars official told Kickgh.com.

The game which was played at the AAK II Sports Arena in Ampain had already seen high tension and tempers flaring before the second penalty call, which was reportedly viewed as contentious by the Nations FC camp. The earlier stages of the match had also featured heated tackles, fan unrest, and a visible lack of control from the match officials.

Security personnel were not enough at the stadia to maintain order in the stands, and the situation deteriorated quickly after the walk-off, forcing match officials to officially declare the game abandoned.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that it has launched an investigation into the incident, including the conduct of both teams, match officials, and crowd behavior at the venue.

With Nations FC among the frontrunners in winning the league title and Basake Holy Stars fighting to climb the table, the outcome of this incident could have serious implications for both club's.

Both clubs await the GFA’s decision in the coming days, with potential consequences ranging from awarded points, fines, or even disciplinary sanctions depending on the findings.
