Asante Kotoko stop-gap coach Abdul Karim Zito has bemoaned the absence of key players for their weekend fixture against Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The Porcupine Warriors will continue their title chase campaign by welcoming Medeama SC for the Ghana Premier League week 33 clash on Sunday.
However, Karim Zito feels worried over the unavailability of four key players for the upcoming game including three players due to accumulation of yellow cards while striker Kwame Opoku is on national duties with the Black Stars in the Unity Cup.
Speaking in a pre-game interview, Karim Zito expressed his disappointment over the situation that stemmed from Kotoko’s goalless draw with Bibiani Gold Stars that had Kotoko receive five yellow cards.
Defender Samba (O’Neil) Gilbani, captain and midfielder Justice Blay and midfielder Dauda Saaka will miss Sunday’s game after picking up yellow cards against Bibiani and Zito sounded his dissatisfaction over the situation in camp ahead of the crucial match.
“I’m not losing only Kwame Opoku…that was why seriously, I ran to the referee and assistant referee [when we played against Gold Stars] to complain that the yellow cards are too much. Out of that game, three of my regular players aren’t playing…so seriously, I’m not happy but I can do nothing” Zito said.
Asante Kotoko currently occupies the third spot on the 2024–25 Ghana Premier League table with 55 points after match-week 32 and they are optimistic of securing a win over Medeama SC to keep their title winning hopes alive.
