Hearts of Oak captain Kofi Agbesimah has been relieved of his duties at the club's Kpobiman training ground by coach Aboubakar Ouattara.

The 27-year-old defender, who joined the Phobians from Bechem United last summer, had requested to terminate his contract with the club due to various issues.

Agbesimah, who had an impressive campaign in the 2023/24 season, making 30 league appearances and scoring one goal, hasn't been happy with his situation at the club. Despite having a year remaining on his contract and wants to leave the team.

According to reports, Ouattara dismissed Agbesimah from training, expressing displeasure about the player's attitude and stripped him off his captaincy. The incident occurred as the Phobians are preparing for their upcoming match against rivals Asante Kotoko in the Democracy Cup.

Agbesimah's situation would be a significant blow to Hearts, who rely heavily on his experience and leadership. He had established himself as a key member of the team and was named as the club captain following the departure of Gladson Awako.

The club is yet to comment on Agbesimah's proposed contract termination.
