Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has acknowledged the difficulty of their opening Ghana Premier League fixture against Berekum Chelsea but insists his side has the confidence and quality to secure a positive result.
The Porcupine Warriors travel to the Golden City Park on Saturday to face Chelsea, a team that has consistently proven a thorn in Kotoko’s side.
“Kotoko has never had it easy against Berekum Chelsea. Even when I was playing, matches against them were always tough,” Zito told AKSC Media. “I reminded my players that just as we prepared intensely to face Kotoko in the past, other clubs also prepare the same way to face us now.”
Despite history not favouring his team, Zito remains optimistic about turning the tide. “Not only Chelsea, but every game is difficult. According to history, Kotoko doesn’t have it easy over there. But there is always a day that can change things. We have confidence and hope that we can do it,” he added.
Kotoko are aiming to start the 2025/26 campaign strongly as they target a return to the top of Ghanaian football.
