On Sunday, June 11, 2023, Legon Cities secured their continued presence in the premier league with a hard-fought 3-2 triumph over Samartex FC at the El Wak Stadium.
Facing the looming threat of relegation, The Royals demonstrated their determination to avoid the drop by swiftly taking the lead just 3 minutes into the game through Abdul Rahman. Four minutes later, Ebenezer Armegah found the back of the net, doubling Cities' advantage.
However, the visitors, Samartex, managed to narrow the deficit before halftime as Evans Osei Wusu scored in the 34th minute. In the second half, The Timber Giants relentlessly searched for an equalizer but failed to find the back of the net. Instead, it was Michel Otou who extended Legon Cities' lead, scoring in the 80th minute.
Although Emmanuel Keyekeh pulled one back for Samartex in the 88th minute, it was not sufficient to avoid defeat.
As the season concluded, Legon Cities and Samartex occupied the 9th and 10th positions on the league standings, respectively, with each team accumulating 46 points.
