Kpando Heart of Lions head coach, Bashir Hayford, is leaning on his extensive coaching experience as his team gears up for the 2024-2025 Ghana Premier League season.

In an exclusive interview with ChannelOne Sports, the seasoned coach discussed his qualifications and readiness ahead of their crucial Gbese Mantse Cup clash against Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club on Sunday, August 11, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The friendly match, which is part of the preseason schedule for both teams, also serves as a platform to promote peace ahead of Ghana’s Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in December.

Hayford, who made a return to the Ghana Premier League after stints abroad, took on the challenge of keeping Heart of Lions in the top flight and is determined to continue making an impact.

“I’m still alive, I’m still working, I’m still green. When I came back from Somalia, I decided to rest for a season. People wrote them (Heart of Lions) off that they are gone… so I took the challenge and I was able to sustain them in the Premiership. It has given us the experience to thrive on, the experience to see what we can do to not enter into the same situation again.”

Hayford also emphasized his ongoing relevance and capability in the coaching world.

“It will let Ghanaians know I’m still coaching, I’m still strong, I still have the knowledge, my knowledge now is so pure that I have matured with the knowledge.”
