Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has avoided giving any clear indication about the future of captain Samba O’Neil, as uncertainty grows over the defender’s stay at the club.
The Congolese centre-back, who joined the Porcupine Warriors in 2024, has become an influential figure in the team and one of the most consistent performers in recent seasons. However, with his contract set to run out at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, speculation over his next move continues to intensify.
Reports indicate that O’Neil has turned down an extension offer from Kotoko, while attracting interest from clubs in South Africa and Tanzania who are believed to be preparing attractive proposals for the experienced defender.
When asked about the situation, Zito chose not to be drawn into discussions about the player’s future, maintaining a cautious stance.
“Nobody knows what is going to happen tomorrow, so let’s put it aside,” he told Graphic Sports.
Despite the uncertainty, O’Neil remains fully focused on his responsibilities on the pitch. The defender has scored three goals in 19 appearances this season and continues to lead the team as captain.
He is expected to marshal the defence once again when Kotoko take on Aduana FC in the MTN FA Cup Round of 16 clash at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, as the club looks to keep their hopes alive in the competition.
