The Ghana Football Association has announced that Lydia Donkor, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) will lead a comprehensive investigation into the violent clashes that ruined the Ghana Premier League Matchday 19 fixture between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko at the Nana Koromansah II Park on Sunday, 2nd February 2025.

 

 

DCOP Donkor, who also chairs the GFA Security Committee, will team up with the FA Prosecutor to dig up the events that led to the violence.

 

 

The altercation was between the players and staff from both teams, which later extended to the fans which resulted in the tragic death of a Kotoko supporter, Francis Frimpong, affectionately known as Nana Pooley, multiple injuries, and serious wrecking of property. 

 

 

The GFA condemned the acts of hooliganism, emphasizing that the issue will be investigated thoroughly as part of attempts to mitigate violence in Ghanaian football.

 

 

“The incident—which deserves condemnation from all football stakeholders—will be subjected to full-scale investigations in our attempt to curb hooliganism in our football,” the statement read.

 

 

The GFA promised the public of its commitment to probing deep-dive investigation and taking action against the perpetrators.

 

 

“Football fans and the general public are urged to assist with any relevant information to aid the investigation,” the statement concluded.
