Sports and Recreation Minister-designate Kofi Adams has proposed enhanced security arrangements for Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League following the fatal stabbing of a club supporter during their Matchday 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC.

The tragic incident, which resulted in the death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, occurred after clashes between Kotoko and Nsoatreman fans at the Nana Konamansah Park on Sunday.

Speaking on The Pulse on Joy News, Kofi Adams emphasized the need for special security protocols whenever Kotoko plays in certain regions, citing a pattern of violence against the club.

"One thing from my reading is that, anytime Kotoko is playing a match in that part of the country, there seems to be some unpleasant situations,” Adams noted.

“Sometimes not just on the pitch, but after the game, and even at times, on their way back, they encounter such incidents.

“What it means also is that some special arrangements will have to be made for Kotoko anytime they have to play in that area.”

The minister-designate also assured that security protocols would be strengthened across all league venues before the next round of matches.

“You are not going to have the same thing as in the past. We will improve security at the venues,” he added.

In response to the violence, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has indefinitely suspended Nsoatreman FC’s home venue and halted the Ghana Premier League as investigations continue.
