Asante Kotoko’s management is weighing the possibility of withdrawing from the Ghana Premier League following the tragic death of their supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, who was fatally stabbed during their Matchday 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Konamansah Park on Sunday.

The club's leadership will consult with their life patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, before making a final decision on whether to continue competing in the league or suspend their participation indefinitely.

Speaking to Asempa FM, club communications member Seth Nii Darko confirmed the impending discussions.

“Asante Kotoko’s management, led by Kwesi Appiah and Nana Apinkrah, will visit Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to inform him about the unfortunate incident in Nsoatre. After that, a final decision will be made,” he stated.

Darko also shared his personal view, advocating for a league boycott.

"Personally, I wish the club would withdraw from the league and push for its suspension indefinitely," he added.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko has strongly condemned the violent act and pledged full cooperation with authorities in the ongoing investigation.

In response to the tragic incident, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has indefinitely suspended Nsoatreman FC’s home venue, while Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor has been appointed to lead the investigation.
