Asante Kotoko have announced Abdul Karim Zito as their new Technical Director and head coach, as reported to you earlier by your trusted sports-hub Kickgh.com

He comes in as replacement for Prosper Narteh Ogum who got jettisoned last Tuesday afternoon for poor performance mainly having taken the club to a four-game winless run recently which has brought a huge dent on their league winning ambition

The new Kotoko technical team are expected to lead the team for the remainder of the 2024/25 football season with an option for extension

Zito, who is a former player and coach of Kotoko, comes in to head the entire technical team this time including a head coach role which he will take over on interim basis until a substantive coach comes in.

The experienced gaffer has achieved a lot in his coaching career having guided Dreams FC to their first ever FA Cup success and a stellar CAF Confederations Cup campaign in the 2023/24 season where they reached the semi-final stage.

At national level, he once again led the Black Satellites to the double in 2021/22, having won the WAFU Championship in Benin and the TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Cup of Nations later in Mauritania

He will be assisted by another experienced figure in Prince Yaw Owusu, who has worked for over two decades and has previously worked at clubs like Inter Allies, Medeama SC, Sudanese side Al Khartoum - where he served as assistant to James Kwesi Appiah, the Black Satellites and others.

The legendary Malik Jabir stays as the new Technical Advisor, as the club deem his experience and guidance will also help the club fulfill it long-term objectives.

Definitely, the new technical team will be tasked to win both the league and FA Cup - which still looks possible even though Asante Kotoko have now dropped to the fourth position in the table with 47 points, six behind league leaders Bibiani Goldstars and will face Berekum Chelsea in the semis of the league cup.

Abdul Karim Zito's first game is against Aduana Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
