The Ghana Police Service say they have arrested a suspected gang leader and another individual in connection with the robbery attack that led to the death of Dominic Frimpong.

The 20-year-old Berekum Chelsea player died from gunshot wounds after armed robbers attacked the team bus on the night of 12 April 2026.

The incident happened along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District as the team travelled back to Berekum following a league match in Samreboi against FC Samartex.

Police sources say the two suspects were arrested after an exchange of gunfire with officers. The alleged gang leader was injured during the gunbattle and later taken to hospital for treatment.

Authorities say the suspect has since admitted involvement in the robbery.

The attack has drawn widespread condemnation and raised fresh concerns about the safety of teams travelling for domestic matches.

Following the incident, the Ghana Police Service launched a manhunt for those responsible, while football authorities and clubs called for stronger security arrangements for team travel.

Investigations are continuing as police work to identify and arrest other members of the suspected robbery gang.
