Former Ghana international Mohammed Polo has criticized the current standard of the Ghana Premier League, describing it as far below international expectations.

After watching the Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium, Polo singled out Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare as the only domestic player worthy of a Black Stars call-up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"Apart from Benjamin Asare, no Ghana Premier League player is quality enough to be at the 2026 World Cup," Polo told Connect FM. He added that despite a red card for Hearts, Kotoko failed to create meaningful chances, highlighting a lack of quality in the league.

He added, "The quality of the Ghana Premier League has gone down drastically. I watched the Super Clash recently and didn’t enjoy it because the players weren’t good enough. Despite Hearts of Oak receiving a red card, Asante Kotoko couldn’t create anything significant. It all comes down to quality."

The Black Stars, drawn in Group L with Panama, England, and Croatia, will have their final squad announced by Otto Addo on June 1, with local players eager to impress ahead of the tournament.
