Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah has stressed the urgency of securing victory against rivals Hearts of Oak, insisting the Porcupine Warriors must claim all three points to steady their campaign and restore belief among supporters.

The much-anticipated Ghana Premier League Matchday 22 encounter is set to take place at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, with both sides pushing hard to stay within reach of the top spots. Hearts currently occupy fourth position with 36 points, just one ahead of Kotoko, who sit fifth on 35.

Kotoko head into the derby under pressure after a disappointing run of results. Back-to-back defeats to Heart of Lions in the league and Aduana FC in the MTN FA Cup have left the team searching for a response at a critical stage of the season. The situation has been further complicated by the departure of head coach Karim Zito, leaving assistants Prince Yaw Owusu and Hamza Obeng to guide the team into the crucial fixture.

Despite the setbacks, Amoah believes the squad is determined to bounce back strongly. The forward, who recently returned to the club, revealed that preparations have been intense, with particular emphasis placed on improving their finishing ahead of the clash.

“We are preparing very well for the Hearts of Oak match. We are working more on goal scoring because we need to get more goals against them. I think we are ready for the match,” he told Akoma FM.

Amoah underlined the importance of the derby, admitting that the team cannot afford another slip as they aim to regain momentum and reconnect with their fan base.

“We need the points badly against Hearts. It’s important for us to win back the hearts of our fans after inconsistent results. This is a match our supporters really need, and getting the victory is very crucial,” he said.

With pride, points, and momentum all at stake, the Super Clash promises to be a tense and fiercely contested affair as Kotoko look to respond to recent disappointments and reassert themselves in the title race.
