Former Asante Kotoko and Black Stars defender Emmanuel Ampiah has cast doubt on Kotoko’s ability to win the Ghana Premier League this season, citing inconsistency and a lack of the winning mentality that once defined the club.

Speaking in an interview on Kessben TV, Ampiah, who was a key part of Kotoko’s dominant teams of the past, expressed concerns about the current squad’s ability to sustain a title challenge.

"You can’t trust the current Kotoko," Ampiah stated bluntly. "During our time, if Kotoko went on top of the league, no team could overtake us. We had a strong mentality—once we were in front, we stayed there until the end. But right now, I can’t say the same about this team."

During Ampiah’s playing days, Kotoko was a force to be reckoned with, consistently winning league titles and competing strongly in African competitions. The team’s discipline, talent, and unwavering belief made them almost unbeatable when they hit top form.

However, the current Kotoko side has struggled with inconsistency, fluctuating between strong performances and disappointing results. While they remain in contention for the league title, Ampiah believes they lack the resilience and dominance that once defined the club.

"This Kotoko team is not the same as before. One week they win, the next they lose or draw. That wasn’t the case with us. We knew what it took to win, and we did it consistently," he added.

Despite leading the league at times and possessing talented players, Kotoko’s inability to maintain momentum has left fans frustrated. As the season progresses, they will need to prove Ampiah wrong by demonstrating the consistency and leadership required to reclaim their place at the top of Ghanaian football.
