Laryea Kingston has stated that the Black Stars dolled out too much sense of composure and a refusal to rattle down one of the top international sides in Africa in the first half of their match-day three game of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
The Black Stars went into recess trailing 1-0, with Komary Doubmia scoring in the 45th minute for the Eagles of Mali.
But, Ghana reversed the fortunes of the game in the second half, netting twice through Ernest Nuamah and Jordan Ayew to bag a much needed three points.
According to Laryea Kingston, who's a former Ghana international, although the Black Stars put up an encouraging display by showing a desperate rearguard action in the second half, they showed their opponents too much respect.
"We respected Mali in the first half, and that was a problem, but things changed in the second half," Kingston said on GTV Sports Plus.
"Partey and other players were making runs into the Malian box. I've always said that Ghana has the players to challenge any team.
"Credit to Jordan Ayew for his goal and Ernest Nuamah's strike, which were both vital for us. It was a good game, and Otto Addo has done a great job," he added.
Thursday's win is significant as it marks Ghana's first away victory since 2022. The Black Stars have now moved to the second position in Group I with six points, tied with Comoros, who remain at the top of the table due to goal difference.
