Medeama SC will play as visitors to Major League Soccer side DC United in a highly anticipated international friendly on Saturday night at the Audi Field in Washington DC.
Dubbed the Capital City Cup, this is a unique matchup between two historic teams and will be used to magnify the celebration of African culture in Washington, D.C and also part of the activities to celebrate the 2023 Ghana week.
Medeama SC is a Ghanaian topflight side and are currently the champions of the Ghana Premier League champions- winning for the first time in history and have made it to the money zone of the CAF Champions League for the first time.
Established in 2011, they have in addition, won two FA Cups in 2013 and 2015 and one Super Cup.
Despite having a shaky start to the league season, the Mauves and Yellows redeemed themselves with a crucial 1-2 comeback away win over Bechem United, having previously lost in Dormaa.

On the other hand, DC United are one of the founding clubs of Major League Soccer in 1996. They are among the most decorated teams in the United States with 13 domestic and international trophies.
The Black-and-Red have won the MLS Cup four times (1996, 1997, 1999 and 2004), the Supporters’ Shield four times (1997, 1999, 2006 and 2007) and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup three times (1996, 2008 and 2013).
Currently without a substantive manager, the Washington-based side redeemed themselves from the embarrassing 3-0 lost at Austin to inflict a precious 2-0 win over New York City last Saturday in the MLS.
