Chelsea legend Michael Essien believes the club will need "time and patience" to regain their top form following a mixed start to the season under new ownership.

Since Roman Abramovich sold the club, Chelsea has faced challenges, with the Todd Boehly-led ownership yet to secure a major trophy. Last season, the Blues finished sixth in the Premier League after a late resurgence but remain far behind league favorites Manchester City and Arsenal.

Despite the struggles, Essien remains confident in the club’s long-term prospects.

"I still follow them [Chelsea] and always watch the games whenever I can. I think it will take time and a lot of patience, but I’m sure they will get there," Essien told Joy Sports.

The former Ghanaian international has transitioned into coaching since retiring from football and currently serves as an assistant coach at Danish club FC Nordsjaelland. There, he helps to develop young players, aiming to groom the next generation of world-class talents.

Essien’s calm reassurance reflects his belief that, with the right approach, Chelsea can once again rise to the top of European football.
