Newly-captured St Johnstone FC defender Aaron Essel, has disclosed how excited he is for finally earning an European spell in his career and is looking forward to establishing himself as a mainstay at the club.

The 18-year-old switched to the Scottish Premiership side from Bechem United on a contract until the summer of 2027..

Essel, went through a successful three-week trials at St. Johnstone FC where he featured in their friendly game against Arbroath on Saturday and his consistent impressive display finally earned a permanent stay at the McDiarmid Park.

Speaking to the club's official TV channel after the move, the lanky lateral lauded the entire team staff and players for the warm reception they gave him as he strongly feels they really helped so much during the trial process.

Again, he further indicated he is very proud and is looking forward to improve in his game and much more and become one of the supporter's favourite.

“I am so happy to sign here. It is a great step for me in my career and to develop.

“I am very proud and getting the chance to be here is a blessing. I want to show my qualities on the field - my tackles, my passing. I just want to develop to become a key player of the club.

"The staff, players and manager have been amazing. The people here have been so amazing with welcoming me. I love it and I am looking to do my best.”

Aaron Essel, has featured for Ghana from the U17 to the U23 level and was a key member of the Ghana U20 team [Black Satellites] that won the 2023 African Games held in Ghana.

He made 13 appearances for Bechem United in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season's campaign.
