Otto Addo named his provisional 55-man squad on Friday for this month's FIFA World Cup set to take place in Qatar. For others, however, they now know they face a quiet winter after being overlooked by the Ghana manager.
There are a number of players who will be gutted to miss out on the squad. Let's take a look at those who can feel most hard done by with their omission from the Ghana squad.
Bernard Tekpetey
None of the strikers named in Addo’s provisional list has scored more goals than Bernard Tekpetey this campaign.
The Ludogorets Razgrad striker has silenced the doubters who didn’t believe he could cut it in the Bulgarian top flight and he has been incredibly consistent.
Tekpetey has been involved in 14 goals for his club scoring 8 and registering 6 assists in 27 games.
His omission from the provision squad has raised eyebrows and generated a lot of discussions among the Ghanaian football populace.
Abdul-Aziz Yakubu
At the age of 23, Abdul-Aziz Yakubu has shown himself to be an old head on young shoulders with his relentlessly consistent performances for Rio Ave FC this season. The Ghanaian forward has barely put a foot wrong. He has scored 6 goals, registered 3 assists in 13 appearances for his Portuguese side.
At such a young age, Abdul-Aziz Yakubu is performing at a level beyond his years and can consider himself harshly done by to be omitted from Addo's squad.
Kwabena Owusu
People may have been surprised to see Kwabena Owusu miss out. His creativity has shined this season and that kind of form could have offered so much in the upcoming World Cup.
It has been a tough few years for the Qarabag FK star but he has rediscovered his form and put himself back in the conversation and he has been extremely unlucky on this occasion.
He has scored 3 goals, registered 2 assists in 10 games for his club and certainly deserved a place in Otto Addo’s provisional squad.
