Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan has expressed his interest in coaching his boyhood club, Asante Kotoko, in the future.

Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals and the highest African scorer in World Cup history, missed the chance to play for the Ghanaian giants upon his return to the local scene. Instead, during the 2021/22 season, he joined Legon Cities, marking his return to domestic football for the first time since 2003 when he left Liberty Professionals.

Before his stint with Legon Cities, there was widespread speculation that Gyan would join Asante Kotoko. Reflecting on this missed opportunity, Gyan mentioned in an interview with UTV, as monitored by Footballghana.com, that he would gladly accept a coaching role at Kotoko in the future if he pursued a coaching career.

When asked about his willingness to coach Kotoko in the future, Gyan responded, "Why not? I will gladly accept Kotoko’s coaching job if I’m into coaching."

Having already secured his UEFA B coaching license, Gyan is qualified to take on a coaching role. Since announcing his retirement from football in October 2023, he has been involved in various projects, including the All Regional Games, scheduled for November 2024.

Additionally, the former Black Stars captain is leading Dr. Bawumia’s manifesto committee ahead of the 2024 general elections.
