Former Black Stars midfielder, Rabiu Mohammed has admitted that Ghana couldn't perform at the World Cup in 2014 because of the appearance fee issues.

Ghana had their bad spell at the mundial after exiting the 2014 World Cup from the group stages.

Ghana drew with eventual champions Germany, but lost to Portugal and the United States of America in the group stages.

Appearance fee issues marred Ghana's participation after it was delayed. Players boycotted training before the appearance fees was sent in a private jet to Brazil.

International media houses covered the bizarre arrival of the private, carrying the money, causing international embarrassment to Ghana.

The Government set up a Commission of Enquiry to look into the brouhaha, and advise the government on measures to prevent future occurrences and direction for football in general.

Rabiu Mohammed believes that the appearance fee issues affected the team's performance in the 2014 World Cup.

"Our wish was to win the tournament, so we needed good performance and luck but then things did not turn out as we wished. We didn't do well in two of our games that is against USA and Portugal," he said on Akoma FM.

"I will also agree with Ghanaians who say that we were somehow chasing money and lost concentration along the way.

"Another reason why we failed too was that our players were a bit tired because we needed to travel like three (3) hours to our next venue to play Portugal after our game with Germany, we were clearly tired.

"I will sum up that we didn't do well due to the appearance fee which was not paid to us on time and only given to us before we played against Portugal and I'm wishing same will not occur to the current team going into Qatar 2022 world cup," he ended.
