At 23, Lamptey made a significant switch from England to Ghana, debuting in a friendly against Brazil and later featuring in Ghana’s final pre-World Cup match against Switzerland.
Lamptey’s World Cup debut came during Ghana's match against Portugal, where he entered as a substitute in the 66th minute.
Reflecting on the experience, Lamptey told 3Sports, "I think the World Cup is top of everybody’s list. As a young boy, you can only dream of playing in the World Cup, which was a very special and proud moment for me and my family."
He underscored the importance of such experiences, adding, "After the sacrifice and the hard work that you put in, moments like that you have to cherish. It’s very important in your career; it makes you strive for the next one and just want to improve."
Lamptey’s contributions continued as he started in Ghana’s subsequent game against South Korea, a thrilling 3-2 victory, further cementing his place in the national team.
Despite dealing with injuries, Lamptey remains committed to supporting Ghana's efforts to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
