Dr. Randy Abbey, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has labeled Kwesi Appiah’s dual role as head coach of Sudan’s national team and GFA executive member as an "untidy situation."
Appiah’s simultaneous positions have sparked concerns over potential conflicts of interest, particularly after Ghana and Sudan were drawn into the same group for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. Many have called for Appiah to step down from his GFA post due to the circumstances.
In an interview with Michael Kofi Oduro on Metro TV, Dr. Abbey revealed that Kwesi Appiah has not attended any Executive Council (ExCo) meetings since the AFCON draw. He implied that Appiah is likely avoiding discussions on the qualifiers to prevent any perception of bias.
"My friend Kwesi Appiah hasn’t attended any ExCo meetings since the draw. I’m sure he’s excusing himself because he knows issues of the game will be discussed. Well, his situation is an untidy one,” Abbey remarked.
Ghana will face Appiah’s Sudan in a crucial AFCON qualifier on Friday, October 11, at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by the return leg on Monday, October 14, at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.
