Ghanaian football legend Mohammed Polo has voiced his confidence in the Black Stars' chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite a rocky start to the qualifiers.
The four-time African champions currently sit without a win in their opening games in Group F, suffering a defeat to Angola and managing only a draw against Niger last month.
When asked about the Black Stars' prospects for qualification, Polo responded affirmatively, stating, “Yes! It is not over for Ghana. We will struggle a bit, but we will definitely qualify.”
While he remains hopeful, Polo stressed the importance of improving performance in the upcoming matches. “I urge the team to uplift their performance. There will be pressure because of how they started the qualifiers, but they need to improve,” he remarked in an interview with Ghanasoccernet.com.
The Black Stars are set to host Sudan on October 11, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium, following the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) approval for the venue. They will then travel to Libya for the return leg at the Martyrs of February Stadium on October 14.
As anticipation builds, Ghana coach Otto Addo has yet to announce his squad for the crucial clash next week. The Black Stars aim to turn around their fortunes and secure one of the top two spots in Group F to qualify for the AFCON tournament, which will take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
