An Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Sarfo Oduro, has stated that the organization is not required to be accountable to the general public, amidst growing calls for greater transparency.
Oduro made these remarks in an interview on Accra-based Asempa FM, as the GFA faces increased public scrutiny regarding its operations. While addressing the issue, he clarified the GFA's structure, emphasizing that the organization’s primary responsibility is to its member clubs, rather than to the wider public.
"The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is accountable to the football people. It is an organization, and we are accountable to each and every football club. The association is made up of individual clubs," Oduro explained.
Despite acknowledging the passion and interest of football fans, Oduro emphasized that the GFA’s formal accountability does not extend to the general public or supporters of the game.
“We are not accountable to supporters or Ghanaians,” he stated, reiterating the GFA's focus on its member clubs rather than external stakeholders.
The GFA has been under increasing criticism following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with many calling for reforms and greater engagement between the association and football fans across the country.
