Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has expressed strong confidence that the appointment of experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz will rejuvenate the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz took over in March after Otto Addo’s departure, with Ghana fully focused on preparations for the global tournament. Speaking in Vancouver during the FIFA Congress, Okraku acknowledged injury concerns within the squad but insisted the team’s “indomitable spirit” and national unity would drive them to compete strongly.
He believes Queiroz’s arrival has already inspired renewed belief across the team and supporters, which could translate into improved performances on the world stage.
"When I look at the list, it's quite worrying, but I derive my positivity from the fact that there is something in the Ghanaian; the indomitable spirit of the Ghanaian will always come up when the chips are so low, and I would want to believe that, with the unity of purpose that has been demonstrated by the entire nation as a result of the arrival of coach Carlos Queiroz, it would arouse extra energy in the Ghanaian player, to the 12th man, and we will find the right level of energy to be competitive," Okraku said.
Ghana, set for their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group I alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. Their campaign begins on June 17 against Panama, followed by matches against England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
As part of preparations, the Black Stars will face Mexico and Wales in friendly matches later this month. Queiroz is expected to announce his final World Cup squad on June 1.
