Ghana midfielder Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has revealed his strong ambition to return to the FIFA World Cup stage in 2026, despite recently recovering from a lengthy injury setback that kept him out of action for almost three years.

The 30-year-old, who featured for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, endured a difficult spell on the sidelines after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury. He has only just returned to action, making his comeback with SC Freiburg’s U23 side last month.

Kyereh admits he is still working his way back to full fitness but remains hopeful of convincing the Black Stars technical team to include him in the squad for the tournament set to be hosted in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

“Yes, I do. That is another dream and goal I am striving for. I believe in it,” he told Joy Sports when asked about his World Cup ambitions.

However, he stressed that his focus is currently on regaining peak condition and earning consistent playing time in the coming weeks.

“I need to be honest with myself. I have some weeks or months to get into the best shape I can. My aim is to play full matches before the World Cup so I can be ready,” he explained.

Despite his determination, Kyereh insists he will not push for selection just to make up the numbers.

“I don’t want to go to the World Cup just to be part of it or have it on my CV. If I go, I want to truly help the team and make an impact,” he added.

The midfielder, who has earned 18 caps for Ghana and played at two international tournaments, says the final decision is beyond his control but believes consistent performances will strengthen his case.

“At the end of the day, I am not the one who decides. I can only do my part and leave the rest to the decision-makers,” he concluded.
