The General captain of Aduana Stars, Emmanuel Akuoko has announced his retirement from active football at age 39.

The long-serving defender of the Dormaa-based Premier League side announced his decision to hang up his boots and retire from playing football on Monday.
 
The 39-year-old centre-back, who had stated in an interview with OTEC FM two years ago that he will be retiring at age 42, has finally announced his retirement after the just ended season.
 
Akuoko in a statement on Monday expressed his gratitude to the entire Aduana Stars fraternity for their immense support during his 15-year stay at the club.
 
He was key member of the Aduana Stars' squad that secure a historic Ghana Premier League promotion for the club in 2009.
 
Akuoko won two Ghana Premier League trophies during his 15-year stay at Aduana Stars in 2009 and 2017. He was also a member of the Aduana Stars' squad that clinched the Ghana Super Cup in 2018.
 
He made only one appearance for Aduana Stars in the just ended 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.
