Asante Kotoko Sporting Club finds itself clarifying recent media reports surrounding the contract renewal of player Justice Blay.
Asante Kotoko SC have realeased a long statement to rubbish speculations that, they are unwilling to extend the contract of midfielder Justice Blay.
Blay, hasn't been really impressive this season due to injuries and other issues but weren't bad when deployed to the right back position at some point. He made eight league appearances after the first round.
The 31-year-old will be out of contract with the Reds very soon and reports in the local media are that, the club are not interested in the versatile middleman and are willing to let him leave.
Contrary to those reports, the two-time African champions have emphasized in their statement that the news circulating is nothing but a fallacy and have urged the entire public to disregard it.
Below is the full statement:
"Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has learnt with shock stories making rounds in the media that Management is reluctant about renewing the contract of player Justice Blay, which is set to expire in a few days.
"We wish to place on record that these stories making rounds have no basis and are borne of malice ostensibly aimed at causing disaffection to the club.
"For the records, the club presented a proposal to the player, which included the length of the contract renewal and financial consideration.
"It must be made clear that at no point was a 6-month contract proposed to the player.
"It comes to us as a surprise that discussion between the player who intimated to us today, January 9, 2024, that he was going to get his “management" to conclude discussions with us would be in the media, when in fact, both the player and the club have not agreed anything in principle other than the proposal given to the player, which frankly does not even include a 6-month contract extension.
"We urge our supporters to remain calm and be circumspect about what is being circulated, especially on social media, as the information out there is totally false.
"Let us take this opportunity to inform our teeming supporters and the public that at all times the club will endeavour to operate professionally, devoid of any external pressure or personal sentiments. And the interest of both the club and the player would ultimately be considered."
