Dutch-born of Ghanaian descent, Jeremie Frimpong has arrived in Ghana for a visit.

The Bayer Leverkusen defender touched down at the Kotoka International Airport on Sunday night and will be in the country for one week.

Fimpong will engage in philanthropic works and other activities. He will then meet the leaders of the Ghana Football Association to discuss issues on how he can help develop the game in the West African nation.

The 23-year-old right-back has a Ghanaian father and this visit marks his first in the country.

“To come and meet this welcoming atmosphere for the first time is amazing. These are my people and I am so happy to see everybody and I am happy to be in Ghana,” he told the media upon his arrival.

“I have always been connected to my Ghanaian roots. Both my parents are Ghanaians, I eat Ghanaian foods and I speak the language so I feel like I’ve always been connected.”

The Netherlands international also revealed he has a project in Ghana which also forms part of his visit to the country.

“I have a project called Pathways, operating in Ghana here so of course we have to bring something to the homeland,” he added.

“I have the project here and it’s going to be an amazing one.”
